The f/1.2 deck is a collaboration piece combining our passions for professional photography, playing cards, and clean graphic designing. The tuck was designed to mimic the aesthetics of a camera lens (a.k.a "Glass") while displaying information more related to playing cards. Despite the urge to use metallic inks and foiling, we agreed on keeping production costs down so that this standard edition could be more of a worker's deck.
Although the tuck resembles a specific camera brand, our overall goal is to invite all forms of "shooters", be it a DSLR, point and shoot, or even those who use their cell phones. We believe aspirations are an important part of achieving your goals, and this deck was created to spark the urge for shooters to get out and shoot. The names f/1.2 and f/2.8, are accurate aperture settings that define the depth of field (Dof), created as a wordplay on V1 or V2. The red ring around the tuck mimics a professional line of lenses, known as Red Rings, which are classified as a higher grade of glass.
In designing the back of the cards, we went with the icons that can be found and recognized by any camera owner or operator (shooter). Classic icons like, battery level display, settings, brightness, flash, or self-timer, just to name a few. The red border was created to keep that "red ring" theme throughout the deck. Other than the classic green and yellow font colors commonly found on the red ring lens, we wanted the deck to be minimal in color, using only gray, white, red, and black.
The court cards contain your standard court design, splashed intricately with camera icons. Custom designed jokers contain what resembles the control wheel found on most cameras.
All four aces have exploded pips with the cross-hair in the center. The Ace of Spades design was meant to look like what you would normally see on a camera display. The rest of the cards bare your standard pips and indices.
Because we made the spot-on parts of the tuck embossed, you can actually feel the zoom and focus grip rings, like on a real lens, when holding the tuck case!
We will close the tuck with a matching numbered custom seal. The decks will be sent randomly, so we can't make promises about special number requests.
