The Gods of Norse will be the third deck I designed for the playing card community. After designing the Gods of Egypt, Eternal Reign Playing Cards, I am in love with the process of telling stories through the design of playing cards, and I cannot wait to show you guys more designs that represent my passion. Now for the main event, welcome to the legends of Norse Mythology, the land where gods, goddesses, and deity rule the realm. Despite the antagonism between these gods, it was necessary for them to combine powers and ideals for all to prosper. Welcome to the Gods of Norse.
The glamorous-looking tuck box comes in two richly coloured versions - The Purple Royale and Olive Esse. Right on the top of the box, you are met with the name of this deck - “Gods of Norse” with bold, Norse-themed letterings. Right beneath the letters, you are met with the great and powerful Odin - The supreme deity of Norse mythology and the greatest among the Norse gods. With his iconic eye patch and long beard that is proof of his unrelenting quest for knowledge.
When you flip the box over, you are greeted by a beautifully illustrated image that is born out of the chambers of a Norse god. When you watch closely, you can see Thor’s hammer - Mjolnir with the Odin Symbol on top of it. The amount of details put into the design awaits your discovery. With the silver and gold foils throughout, the tuck box feels like an ancient relic found in Norse mythology.
If you enjoy discovering ancient wonders, don't hesitate to peek inside the box. Your discovery will be rewarded with a wonderful view of the richly decorated walls of the inside of Odin’s palace. In there, you can spend time pondering over the runic symbols, and admiring the pompous statues, or even marvelling over the staircase where you see Odin entering what seems to be a gateway to another realm.
The interesting part of this deck's design is that the edges are uneven, and the outline is following the elements of the images, rather than the habitual thin white frame.
The court cards offer you a closer look at ancient Norse gods and goddesses in their full decorative attire. One could take forever looking at the details of their shiny armours, regal clothes, and decorative items they are holding. Behind each of them, you can discover an ancient stone cartouche with mysterious runes carved into it.
What makes the two versions different is that the gods and goddesses in the Purple version have their clothes adorned with purple and gold elements, while the ones in the Olive version are dressed in cooler tones of green and silver. The ancient stone cartouche behind each court card are also coloured differently corresponding to their editions.
