On the imposing Mount Olympus, the gods sat, overlooking the humanity and its fantastic fate. According to the legend, before the Olympian gods or the humankind ever came to existence, the world was ruled by the mighty Titans. They were powerful and cruel, and under their reign, the world was enveloped in complete darkness.
Finally, Rhea's sons Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades waged war against their father - Cronus, the King of Titans, ending the era of darkness. But the war between the divine knew no end. Zeus proudly ruled the world, and Poseidon, the legendary lord of the seven seas led heroes from amongst humans into endless battles against the forces of darkness.
People's continuous prayers protected the gods' immortality, and thus wielding their weapons, the gods blessed humanity with peace. The design was inspired by this legendary battle and chose the famous Poseidon's Trident as a key to open up the new deck that leads the player right into the middle of the epic struggle of the Olympian gods and humans against the fate.
The design is set on a solemn Black Foil background, with the Trident traced in bright Bronze Foil lines, symbolizing Poseidon's fierce nature in the face of adversity. The overall style appears almost industrial with an innovative look which is achieved by a clever combination of modern technology and elements from myths and legends.
The back of the cards follows the overall style of the card box, building on black backgrounds representing the depths of the sea and the solemn character of the Olympian gods.
The highly saturated coloured lines outline the image of the Poseidon's trident, and the light grey lines add contrast and richness to the pattern. The sharp strokes are reminiscent of the style of science fiction blockbusters. The outline of the upper and lower end is broken by two parallel lines.
Upon placing multiple cards together by their shorter edges, the image connects into a coherent line, similar to the trail of light that would be left after a strike of the trident.
Much like the rest of the deck, the number cards are also made using a black background. The popping orange pattern is reinforced by subtle dark grey lines. The overall style is industrial and eye-catching.
The design of the suits has undergone a complete remake. Hearts and diamonds are dressed in orange and clubs and spades with metallic grey, creating an almost explosive contrast.
The twelve court cards each represent a legendary hero from a different historical period. Kings rub shoulders with warriors of the divine realms, and they all have summoned the power of the trident to fight against the dark forces. Here are some our favourite ones:
The Jack of Diamonds - Hector
A hero who has risen from amongst the mortals to lead the army of Troy into the battle depicted in Homer's epos Iliad. Under his rule, the Trojan army repelled enemies and instilled fear into the hearts of their foes.
The Queen of Spades - Athena
The goddess of wisdom and war, one of the twelve main gods of Mount Olympus, Athena founded the first court of mankind, which itself represents pure light. Athena is a heroine whose strong figure often appears in the most difficult moments next to those who have been brilliant and brave.
The King of Clubs - Alexander
Emperor Alexander the Great is a famous military strategist and politician in ancient history, and the first of the four greatest military commanders in European history. In his lifetime, he unified the whole territory of Greece, swept across the Middle East, occupied the entire territory of Egypt, and reached the Persian Empire.
A silver trident is a central element of the Ace of Spades. The long handle and the sharp tip of the trident extend upward and downward dynamically. The orange lines mimicking the light emitted from the trident cleverly come together in the shape of a spade.
The two Jokers take the form of Poseidon himself, as well as a human emperor. These images of mythical heroes represent absolute power in the conflict. They are drawn by fluorescent orange lines on a pure black background, providing a shockingly bright visual full of mysterious power.
